A retail outlet I supply with honey has asked that I label my honey GMO-free. Last winter when things got slow, I phoned one of the three GMO-free certifying outfits that the retail outlet recommended. During this phone call I learned that no testing of my product would take place in the certification process. To receive certification I needed to get a signed document from the owners of the land where my bee yards are located, stating that the landowner had not purchased or planted any GMO seed.

I also learned that a prerequisite for GMO-free certification is that I be certified as an organic grower. To obtain organic certification I needed to get a signed document from local landowners stating that they have not and will not use pesticides. Again, no testing of the honey was required.

I haven’t got around to calling the other two certifying organizations yet. I live in Canada (we don't like to do anything in a hurry). Ted
