The Liquid paraffin (mineral oil) component is probably a petroleum
derivative. They may use synthetic waxes in US but I think the UK
pharmaceutical industry still use beeswax.

I have never tried using other waxes, they would probably work, but I
suspect beeswax is more sympathetic for use on skin.
