If day length does not influence brood rearing, then why do indoor wintered
bees with warmer temperatures but total darkness not rear brood until they
are brought outdoors, while outdoor wintered bees in frigid temperatures,
but with open entrances start a small brood patch in January when the day
length change become noticeable.

There must be a good purpose for the three little eyes that are just light
monitoring organs.

Also, I feel that the relatively poor performance of apis mellifera bees in
the Philippines might be related to the relative lack of change in day
length in the tropics.
Stan
