Yes, with my first hive. They didn't follow in the way you  describe but they
would crawl all over me, and if there were any gaps in my  clothes they'd
make a bee-line for them. They'd get under my clothes and sting.  Meanwhile other
bees would be repeatedly attempting to batter their way in  through my veil.
Most unpleasant. The remedy is to requeen; it sounds as though  you have some
better hives you could use to raise a queen from, or you could buy  one from a
more reliable source!
