Hi all

Bob Harrison took me to task about my choice of

'A Modern Bee Farm' written by Sammuel Simmins

I am not suggesting that this book would serve as a manual for present day
beekeeping, but that the man was way ahead of his time... He had a fertile
mind and applied it vigorously.

With our hindsight we could pick a few holes in his ideas, but I still
consider that it is an important book and would beg Bob to read a copy (I
know he will enjoy it). I would say that no beekeeper's education is
complete without reading some of these old books to get a grip on the
mindset of when they were written.

As with all old books one should always bear in mind the author's
credentials, motive and any possible hidden agenda.

As to the 'New beekeeper' that Bob describes... I hope such examples are as
rare in USA as they are in UK, hopefully such individuals will not go on to
write beekeeping books!
