The first lesson for a suburban beekeeper is to locate a bolthole more than 2
miles away asap. Keep only a very few of your most docile hives at home. If
they are in sight of passers by/ neighbours disguise them as compost bins etc.
or keep them in the bee house you were asking about. Don't dress up as a
spaceman before playing with your bees unless you are prepared similarly to
equip your neighbours. People have been known to generate complaints just
from the presence of a purely decorative hive on the lawn which hasn't had a
bee inside it for years.
