When I got my first Beemax and Swienty boxes, I could not wait and I
transferred some pretty good looking hives into them just before winter.
the results were terrible compared to the ones that remained in wood.

I blamed the fact that I transferred them late, not the boxes, since ever
after that the plastic hives have been comparable to the wooden ones.

Now I wonder. Those boxes were brand new. Was that the problem?

Does new plastic equipment off-gas for a while until broken in? Should I
have left the boxes out in the weather for a while before using them? Should
I have painted them inside with propolis tincture?
