In establishing the method, we did similar testing, came up with the same  
results, published the method on our web pages many years ago.  Medhat  built on 
our initial work.  I concur with his work.  He took our  'research' findings, 
improved on them in large field trials with 'real'  beekeepers.
 
One large brood patch is not as good as several smaller ones.   This is just 
a better sampling design, addresses some of the inherent  variability in 
behavior and I suspect also deals with areas of comb - some may  be better 
inspected by bees.  Following Medhat's recommendations reduces  the test variability, 
increases precision.   Jerry
