I was also told acidifying the water with white vinegar helps separate the 
impurities.  I also melt over water with cheesecloth (several layers) in the 
water until the wax is melted then pull out the cheesecloth to remove the 
bulk of the impurities then repeat the process, but I don't make candles so 
I don't know if this would be clean enough.
