I won't venture an opinion on whether or not this is a "good idea" to use it in human cells, or ag crops, bees, etc. However, in our lab it's the state of the art. We have many lines that have been genetically modified using CRISPR/Cas9. It is quicker, easier and comes with the same caveats as the old system -- there can be off target changes. But these appear to be rare and innocuous.
