Also, if I were to put the food inside an empty super on the top of the
hive, would this behavior change/decrease?

Yes,  it will help a lot.  Stop feeding for at least a day first.   Sounds
like your getting every bee in the neighbor hood looking in your yards for
food.  Stop feeding till it gets close to normal again and then feed inside
the hive,  careful not to spill or leak.
