 However, both groups have experience a break in the brood cycle. 

 

 
I do something similar but, to reduce heavy lifting, have the 2 halves as separate colonies side by side, artificially swarmed with all the options this presents.  I go one step further though and (if I can get the dates right!) remove the first sealed brood from both parent and daughter colony as the phoretic mites that have been hanging around for days with nowhere to go will make a mite-line for any brood that's about to be capped.

Artificial swarming, by whatever method, is also a good opportunity for brood comb renewal.
