In the glossary of terms at the end of the Anglo/American book "Getting 

the Best from Your Bees" it is written: " Langstroth: a Reverend 

gentleman of that name devised and made popular the forerunner of the 

moveable frame hive which essentially consists of a set of stacking 

boxes. Thus he has inadvertently been responsible for innumerable cases 

of 'beekeeper's back'  over the last 150 years or so."
