Adding to Geoff Manning’s comments:
- exposure to OA fumes can cause clinical issues such as kidney’s stones and upper respiratory issues. These effects are different from driving!

I believe that the issue is not matter of how to deliver the acid. I learned a guy puts the OA in a bee smoker to fumigate the bees. Too many tools are being tried, but most have not been tested. For a reliable method it must be shown as an effective treatment and safer to both beekeepers and bees.

If you check registered miticides for use in bee hives, they don’t require a pesticide’s applicator licence. As a regulator and involved in registering miticides for bees in Canada, we tried to make sure any approved method is safe and require simply few personal protection equipment.
May be it is time to require a licence to use pesticide’s in bee hives for safety sake. Thus it will be even with driving cars and road safety and farmers that use pesticides on their crops.
