Bob mentioned recently about a lack of funding for pesticide research.

The Calif State Beekeepers cough up the most research money of any state
beekeeping group. I attended, as usual, the Research Committee meeting two
nights ago. The room contained some of the largest and most successful
beekeepers on the planet, from California, the Midwest, and the East Coast.
 Most provide agricultural pollination services.

Re funding of neonic research, my feeling is that that subject wouldn't have
even made the Top 5 list of topics of interest. Indeed, I argued for
support of a modest research project to determine the effects of neonics on
brood.
