Bill Greenrose wonders if he is getting SHB eggs/larvae with his purchased
pollen patties.

Bill, I am in Albany NY and have given up using pollen patties because of
SHB infestation. Our winters are probably as cold as yours, and may be
colder. Sad as it may be, beekeepers in our area find that SHB is
everywhere. Undoubtedly due to packages from the south and migratory
beekeepers. They can easily overwinter in the cluster.

The only good news is that even in the fall it is very unusual to see more
than six or so when the hive is opened.

I found that those few beetles will quickly invade patties and produce very
large numbers of larvae. I understand that in the right conditions a
beetle can lay hundreds of eggs a day!

Lloyd
