This is almost twice the concentration suggested ....35 g / litre of 
1:1 syrup.

1 litre of water + 1 kg of sugar result in much more than 1 litre of 
1:1 syrup. :))  I know it's deceiving (the first specified the amount 
of ingredients, the second the amount of solution).
