One of the most informative books, and at a very reasonable price, that
I've come across in a long time is "Honey Maker: How The Honey Bee Worker
Does What She Does," by Rosanna Mattingly.
Lots of facts about those little fuzzy bugs that do all that work. You'll
find this to be a "How It's Made" book on a bug-scale.
Reviews are posted here:
http://www.beargrasspress.com/honey-maker-release/reviews/ (Heck, if Kim
Flottum, Jan Lohman and Ramesh Sagili recommend this, you really should
check the book out.)
Good reading!
