Maybe the bumbles became extinct in the 400 km range, rather than migrating.

Possible,  they showed the range moving around a lot.   Both expanding and
retracting.  It was an interesting read,  The review of the original was
anyway.   The original data  was beset by politics again.....  the review
pointed out whay hes summary was wrong, and was very well written.
