I have been told that the varroa preference by drones is in the category of
'old wives tale', although it is certainly logical (to humans).  I am told
that experiments by Calderone established that drone cells are not more
frequently infected than those of workers.

Does anyone have a reference to Calderone's work...or is this an 'old wives
tale'?
