Must say you logic for breeding from the strong survivors
is much better here then other post. Making one's own
queens from survivors to use for requeening the lower 1/3
in production is fine with me and quite logical for doing,
and in fact has been done by many commercial beekeepers for
decades, for local needs. 

So why have so many switched then to importing factory like
production queens of lessor quality/fit for their given
areas?
