"Using antibiotics continually made perfect sense to him, because his main occupation was dairy. He told me if he didn't use antibiotics in his dairy, he'd lose the herd."

This surprises me. It’s been a few years since I left the dairy farm, but in the rare case that we used antibiotics (for mastitis), we could not ship milk from that cow for 72 hours following treatment. Any trace of antibiotics in what we sent to the cheese factory, and they’d dump the whole tank.
