I use this tool when I insert strips of foundation for foundationless frames.  The strips don't always stay secure with just the wedge.
I have a hot plate with a saucepan of very hot water, in which I stick a soup can of melted wax.  For the wax, it helps to have a tall, narrow can to get plenty of hot wax in the tube, but with a tall, narrow can, you need to insure it won't tip over.  A couple of small rocks from the garden set in the pan of water secures mine.
I leave my tube in the hot wax until I'm ready to secure a strip.  Then back it goes when that strip is secure.
In the time it takes me to insert another strip in the next frame, my wax tube is ready to go.
I don't have much problem with old wax accumulating as the next usage sufficiently melts the previous wax.  But be sure and use clean wax.
