On the topic of natural solutions, try a poultice of bees wax dissolved in
warm turpentine (3 beeswax to 1 turpentine) and then add one part camphor
oil.  Rub this on the affected area and then cover with a hot water bottle
over a damp wash rag.  You'll find the distraction caused by the itch will
disappear in short order.
