Canada's productivity slump has spread to bees and maple trees, but don't
blame the workers, or worker bees, as it was mostly the weather's fault.

Canada produced 28 million kilograms of honey this year, down 10 per cent
fromthe31 million kilograms produced in 2007, Statistics Canada says, noting
that the average yield per colony was only 48 kilograms, more than 4.5
kilograms less than last year.

The decline was especially steep in honey-rich Alberta, which generates over
one-third of Canadian honey out-put, and where production plunged by
one-quarter.
