Conversation requires that we stop what we are doing and listen.  When we truly listen, we can't be forming rebuttles while the other person is still talking.  When there is misunderstanding, we have to step up and say, "I think you said 'this'.  This is the way I understand what you said.  Is that truly what you meant to say?"  Back to the listening, only after the other person has finished talking should we consider what was said and then form our response.   That's what I like about these discussions here.  We have to time to read, reflect, then reply.
