Dick, sorry about using the word "designed."
Both those points were from scientific papers.  Knut Schmidt Nielson (sp?)
studied camel thermoregulation.
The polar bear study of phototransmission via the hairs was published
several years ago--can't recall the author.
You should be able to find the info on the web.
