How about covering the hive with a large garbage bag (or perhaps
several garbage bags or plastic sheeting taped together), then piping
in carbon dioxide.  In short turn it just knocks them out temporarily
(It's used for instrumental insemination), but if keep inclosed with
the CO2 for 20-30 minutes it should do them in.  No need to open the
hive and it probably can be done with minimal disturbance after dark.
