> since Budweiser and others came to the state and promoted growing grain over alfalfa in select areas, those beekeepers have lost large tracts of good bee forage. 

In our area, the change in forage has been a natural progression which went from vast acreages of clover and buckwheat in the 1800s to reversion to forest in the 1900s. The change has been good for wildlife in general, but not so good for beekeeping. Who in the world would suggest getting rid of the forests and all that lives there, so beekeepers could produce honey again? Land use patterns change.
