"The other benefit of top bar hives in Maine is they usually die off every winter so no heavy lifting and no stings.  Plus, come the next winter they make great firewood."

Mine made it through the first winter, gave me four swarms last summer, then starved the second winter because they forgot to leave someone home to make honey. It now enjoys a second life as an herb garden.
