Bob, you're making this seem more difficult than it is. Really! All 
you do is tip the hive to the side, and insert the scale. Tip the 
hive onto the scale and read weight. No reaching underneath, lifting 
the hive onto the scale, or anything like that. Also, no need for any 
extra equipment.
