In answer to Andy

In the U.K. the generally accepted figure for deaths resulting from stings
by all insects, not just bees, is 4 or 5 per year but I do not have the
official data in front of me to back this up. This includes England,
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We do not have the African Bees as such but Brother Adam imported genetic
material from some of the african strains of bees for his breeding work at
Buckfast Abbey. This is well documented in the books he wrote on his work.
The huge mixture of bees in the UK after many years of imports can
occasionally give rise to some very vicious colonies.
