Donald Aitken from Edmonton Alberta has excellent experience handling bees in Alberta climate around this time of the year. I take his advice. Add a 16"x 20" x 2" piece of styrofoam  on top of the inner cover to keep them warm. It does help.

Peter’s advice cold temp stops drifting is great and frankly it is needed when you install that many packages.
