On a warm day, I would place the nucs
in their new hives and insulate them
with snow and leave the front and
entrance ways free of snow and ice.

A simple wrap of black felt paper
around the hives will help.

Old timers used to spread ashes
from the wood burner and or straw
on the snow in front of the hives.
This was said to serve a few purposes;
help the voiding bees to determine sky
from ground, create a slightly warmer
micro climate near the hives on warm
sunny days, and also provided a place
for disoriented bees to land.

Best Wishes
