I like the way you're thinking, but the wax would have to be melted and the wood hot to soak up the wax.  Otherwise the wax would dry on contact with the wood.
 
Perhaps this is why Mann Lake has their parafin and rosin mix that you basically "deep fat fry" your boxes.
 
I have a buddy who fries his hives this way, and they turn out beautiful.  But it takes quite a quantity of parafin and rosin to be able to dip his boxes.  And it takes quite a bit of heat/energy to cook his hives.
 
I've been dipping lately with Perma-8 from Dadant and I've tried some of the water-based Copper Naphthenate from Lowes--about $18 per gallon and you don't dilute it.
