I also was shocked at Jim Smith's death.  Just talked to him in
Memphis.  He was outgoing and intelligent.  He also was amenable
to new ideas.  I saw him for the first time in Toluca, MX when
I was invited to the Mexican Seminar; at that time, he lamented
that only two people  from the U.S. were there to avail themselves
of a good opportunity to get up-to-date information on beekeeping
south of the border.  We will all miss him.
