>Western buckwheat is quite a different plant from the planted variety common in Europe and once very common throughout the Northeastern USA. The western honey is not dark, nor rank tasting.

It is also (as we all know) a great pollen producer in late 
summer and fall, additionally it leads other perennials as
a host plant for beneficial insects further increasing its
utility value according to trials by UCDavis.
