In an effort to make sure my colonies have enough honey going into the
winter, I am concerned about hive weight.

A way to judge hive weight is to try to lift the hive using one of the
handholds on the back. If the hive can be lifted (if it moves when one hand
lifts), it probably doesn't have enough food for the winter. Hives that have
a deep hive body filled with honey are heavy.
