This note puts a clear number on the ratio of skeps kept overwinter to the summer numbers:

> A maximum number of colonies for this season is obtained by managed swarming using traps. This way 3 times the number of overwintering skeps is available at the time of heather honey production. As the heather skeps contain free-built frameless combs, honey is pressed out or sold within the fresh wax.
