The MBA is about to issue a rebuttal to the CFIA's September package bee import risk assessment.

Quote from the conclusion of CFIA's 2013 risk assessment;
"Conclusions of the current risk assessment are similar to the previous scientific evaluation conducted in 2003; there is still a high probability of introducing diseases and pests into Canada due to importation of honey bees from the continental United States. The risk assessment does not provide new scientific evidence to remove or decrease the current import control measures"

Quoted from the MBA's "White Paper" document in rebuttal;
"the threat of rVarroa would be regarded as the greatest threat to Manitoba’s beekeeping industry of all the threats identified"
"Strachan Apiaries Inc, which is one of the main California queen exporters to Manitoba, reported that they
have never heard of any of the queen breeders in the area reporting problems with rVarroa to amitraz."

So, you would think if the MBA is loading their guns in rebuttal to the CFIA's risk assessment conclusions, you'd think the MBA would actually address the very point in their conclusions with some factual stats and not a couple beekeepers opinions.

If there are any American beekeepers reading this post, what is the actual status of Amitraz resistance in American beekeeping hives? if any? and if so is it in pockets? state by state? throughout the industry?
