'The thing that I found surprising was that the bees apparently ignored the crops and foraged on the weeds. Has this been observed elsewhere?'



Norman Carreck of Sussex University showed us aerial photographs of the area around his apiary which was completely yellow with oilseed rape flowers and yet the bees were bringing in pollen from 14 different species (I don't recall whether this included the rape).
