So, would a proper evaluation process be periodic testing of the colonies by using the alcohol wash?   One thing I hate about that is the killing of bees.   I wouldn't mind the powdered sugar shake, but I've gathered from the discussion on this list that that method of varroa infestation determination is not accurate.  I would love to have great VSH bees that also produce large populations and subsequently large honey production.  

Any suggestions on how to proceed to do this would be appreciated.
