For larger apiaries, I'd do an entire apiary sample from the entrances, then
follow the protocol on my website for processing large samples.
This will give you the most meaningful infection number, since you will
likely be
treating by yard, not by individual colony.

Randy is right that we will be treating for the yard. But I prefer to take a
10% sample of the yard and analize each colony separatelly, if more than 50%
of the samples are infected treat, if more than 30% is heavilly infected
treat.
