Usually not much need for a pollen substitute in my area with a natural pollen flow generally available if there is flying weather. This year the bees have plenty of pollen even with drought and heat and still bringing it in when I look at flight activity. I would be careful open feeding pollen substitute if humidity levels are high and SHB are a problem...and they are at higher levels now than I've ever observed for this time of year.
If feeding pollen patties in winter/spring for buildup in weaker hives, I usually have to give them smaller portions or else the SHB tend to lay eggs in them if the weather is warm enough.
