In the traps used in Australia the diatomaceous earth (DE) kills the SHB.  Not straight away.  The caution here is that DE is not the DE that is used in swimming pools.

Some use vegetable oil instead of DE but if you are migrating hives then the DE is best as the vegetable oil will slop around and kill bees when shifting.
