Cyclists' trouser clips are a good idea. It's difficult to maintain  
concentration when you feel a tickle ascending your leg!

Roy Thurber, who started a lot of the Seattle area clubs, cut rubber bands  
~ 3/4 wide, out of inner tubes for car tires.
 
Step through the loop, slide up over your pants, twist a quarter turn, slip 
 that part of the band over the toe of your shoe, slide down to the arch.
