If we allow for your comment, which is perfectly acceptable, then one must allow for the possibility,,,

....that the data could also be explained by the queen preferentially laying in the portion of comb having 'those temperatures'.  Most eggs would thereby be laid at those temperatures independent of the queen measuring where the actual center of the cluster may be. 

How then would a queen measure where the center is, 
by temperature gradient?  ;)
