There is no such thing as "field edges" in my part of Illinois (east central).

I can confirm that this statement holds for much of the corn belt, and for good measure the counties mow and even use herbicides on the scant amount of vegetation left.  I've collected samples from east to west side of Illinois, not quite as bad in Indiana and Nebraska, but still they move and nuke the 'weeds'.
