I built this system long before raspberrys It is built from OPTO22 
stuff. They have a development software package that is free. Yes you  
will still need to know how to program. All communications are handled 
by the Opto22 stuff. The scale readout needs to have a serial port and 
of course a manual that details the protocol.
I have purchase all the things I needed on Ebay.
