Some almond orchards on the western side of California's
San Joaquin Valley died from lack of irrigaation water
last summer:

A federal court order restricted the pumping of fresh water from 
the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to the Central Valley south 
of Tracy to help prevent an endangered Delta fish from going
extinct.
